In Memory of

Sue Krebs

Leah Susan Krebs, “Sue”, left this world on February 21, 2019, but her larger-than-life persona and trademark humor will not be forgotten.  She will be missed by many but most of all, Folgers Coffee, who is devastated by the loss of Sue.

Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sue was raised by a gang of feisty Italians that included her parents Adolph Angelo Guarill and Bess Giocomarra Guarill. She grew up with her brothers, Mick and David, in a lively, pasta-filled home.

After graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1964, she enrolled in Stewart’s School of Beauty in Sioux City, Iowa. Not wanting to be a beauty school dropout, she finished school and headed back to Fort Dodge where she met and married a tall, handsome, slightly goofy gentleman, Ed Krebs. They were married on Sept. 14, 1968 and moved to Spencer. Ed was wise enough to go along with whatever adventure she led them on, which were many. If you never chased an ambulance with Sue, you haven’t lived. In Spencer, Sue’s decades long career included Founder and CEO of Sue’s Beauty Salon. If you were a customer, you know it was more than a haircut or perm. You were fed, drank copious amounts of coffee, listened to story upon story of her kids and grandkids, received unsolicited advice, and became a friend for life. She now leaves many local residents shaggy and unkempt.

World-renowned for her many homemade sweets and dishes, she loved feeding people and bringing people together. Sue welcomed everyone into her kitchen with open arms and treated them like family, often times making them change a light bulb or take out the trash…just like family. She was a lover of words in all forms; New York Times crossword puzzle, Boggle, puns, library books, and wildly inappropriate comments.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, whom she is now waking up from a nap and making go to the store; her parents; her brothers Mick and David; and her son Joe Minnehan.

Sue is missed and survived by her children Lucas Krebs and wife Kristen Krebs of Philadelphia; Katie Krebs and husband Chris Morton of Minneapolis; her grandchildren that she loved to ply with sugar: Vinny, Dominic and Roman Morton; Avery, Devin and Reagan Krebs; Sarah and Katie Minnehan; as well as many, many dear friends.

We loved her for her laughter, her verve, her nerve and her heart. Our lives are better for having been loved    by Sue.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family, or simply make someone smile today with an unexpected act of kindness or a good joke.

Happy trails, Susie!
