Regina Christina Harleman, the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Peters) Henkel, was born January 14, 1927, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was raised and attended school in Spencer, Iowa, graduating in 1945.
Following high school, she worked at various places including Bjornstad’s Hardware and Drugstore as a bookkeeper for several years, and as a secretary for the Spencer High School Activity Director, until her retirement. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, VFW and the American Legion. She was known as “The Daffodil Lady”, for bringing the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days to Spencer. She was a member of the Business Professional Women where she also served as president. She was a recipient of the Governor’s Award, for being recognized as a volunteer. Regina enjoyed fishing with George in her younger days. She liked to sing, play bingo (her lucky number was 13), baseball, birdwatching, flowers, and spending time with her family.
She passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Northshire Residence at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in 2003; and sisters: Ann Marie Henkel and Opal Frerichs.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Michael (Mary) and Donnie, both of Spencer, IA; daughter, Georgia Ann Moffitt (Bryan) of Estherville, IA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a grandson who was deployed to Kuwait last week to defend our country; sister, Violet McClaire of CA; other relatives and friends.
