David Walter Lawrence

 David Walter Lawrence was born June 1, 1945, to Walter and Janine Lawrence, in South Buffalo, New York.  Educated there, in Holy Family Grammar School and Bishop Timon High School, he graduated in 1963.  He then went on to play two seasons of Junior “B” and Junior “A” Ice Hockey, in both Ontario and Quebec, Canada.

     Beginning in 1965, he served for three years in the Marine Corps, including a tour in Viet Nam, (1966-1967), eventually receiving an Honorable Discharge, with a rank of Staff-Sargent.  He enrolled at Arizona State University in September, 1969, where, in 1972, he earned Bachelor of Science Degrees in both Audiology and Speech Pathology, with a Minor in Psychology.  In 1973, he received his Master of Science Degree in Audiology.  His Master’s Thesis was described by his Thesis Committee to be a “Pivotal Work”.

     David’s Audiology career spanned 43 years and included experience in Research (including several published research-studies), Neurological and Clinical Audiology, as well as Aural-Habilitation.  He was a competitor in the sport of Powerlifting, for over 35 years, holding multiple State, American and World Records, and was inducted into the MDSA Powerlifting Hall of Fame, in 1995.  In 2006, he was recognized as a “Fellow” by the American Academy of Audiology.  In 2009, he qualified for inclusion in Cambridge “Who’s Who” of Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs.

     His love for all animals knew no bounds, and he always referred to them as “God’s Children”.

     He was married and divorced twice, with no children.  He was pre-deceased by brothers Adam (1931), Walter (1933), Paul (1961), mother (1965) and father (1976).  He is survived by twin sister, Joan Marie (Lopus), residing in Pennsylvania and step-sons, Lance and Troy Stevens, both residing in Minnesota.

     Any monetary donations, in David’s memory, are requested to be made to either Spencer, Iowa “People for Pets” Rescue, or “South Central Newfoundland Rescue Club” (Indiana).
