Ruth Lavonne Batschelet, the daughter of Gabe and Bessie (Fallon) Bolyard, was born on October 22, 1930, in Spencer, Iowa.  She grew up on a farm near Greenville and attended school in Gillett Grove, Iowa, until she was in 4th grade.  In the fall of 1940, her family moved to a farm north of Cornell, Iowa, where she finished growing up and graduated from high school in 1948.

When Ruth was 15 years old, she gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ at Bible Camp and joined the First Baptist Church in Webb, Iowa.  She was very active working at Church with the youth and teaching Sunday School.

Following high school, Ruth attended Sioux Falls College, earning a two year teaching degree and taught in Revillo, South Dakota, for two years before returning to Iowa.  She then attended Buena Vista College, and following that she taught school in Gillet Grove and Spencer for the next eight years.

She married Robert (Bob) Batschelet on May 22, 1959.  Following their marriage they farmed south of Spencer where Ruth was a homemaker and helped on the farm.

Ruth farmed on her own following the death of her husband, and finished raising their three sons.  Ruth retired from farming and moved to Spencer in the fall of 1988.  She continued to be active in church work at First Baptist Church in Spencer, Iowa, and she also substitute taught, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ruth passed away September 26, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob in 1977; brothers, Glenn and Floyd Bolyard; brothers-in-law, Joe Beck and Elmer Batschelet; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Batschelet and Mary Batschelet.

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Allen and Terri (Hepworth) Batschelet, Brian and Tami (Waldemar) Batschelet, Curtis and Carolyn (Carlson) Batschelet; four grandchildren: Adam Batschelet, Kelsey Batschelet, Ethan & Ashley (Tuley) Batschelet and Caleb & Talor (Stein) Batschelet; and her sister, Lucile Beck; nieces, nephews and friends.

“Allen,Brian,Curtis....I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was so special. I took care of you Allen and Brian, while your Mom was delivering Curtis. You boys had the mumps and your Mom asked if I would get immunized so I could stay at your house!!! I was a terrible cook and we always laughed about my dried up mac and cheese!! I made great Rice Krispie bars though. She taught me so much. I helped clean the house and did lots of babysitting while in junior high and high school, so we had many wonderful conversations. Always enjoyed her Christmas letters, updating what all of her family had been doing for that year. She was so very proud of you boys and your accomplishments and her grandchildren. She loved you all so much and she loved life. What an amazing lady!!
Peace and prayers to you all.

“Allen, Brian, Curtis and families, you all are in our prayers. We have great and fond memories of Ruthie. I always enjoyed talking about the grain prices with her. And of course, she was a dear friend and best friend of my mom. We are going to miss her on this earth, but look forward to the day when we are all together again in heaven with Jesus. I'm sure Ruthie, your dad, uncle Richard, and my dad are "catching" up on things.”
