Dorothy Marie Glade Schmid, daughter of Albert and Matie Riebesehl Glade was born September 10, 1912 on a farm near Ocheyedan, IA. She was called home by her Lord on October 31, 2017 at the age of 105.

Dorothy attended parochial and public high school and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1930, and attended two summers of teacher training at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught school for two years in rural Osceola County.

She married Oscar Schmid on September 28, 1932. They began farming near Fostoria, IA.

Four sons were born to this union, Robert, Roger, Larry and David.

Oscar passed away in February 1972. She continued to live on the farm and on October 6, 1974 she married Carl Schmid. For thirteen years they also wintered in Arizona. In 1991 they moved into the Highlands in Spencer, IA. After moving to the Highlands, she spent many hours doing volunteer work at St. Luke.

She loved being with friends and family and looked forward to the annual reunion of her family each July at Lake Okoboji, over the past fourty-four years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Oscar and Carl, son roger, daughters-in-law, Claudia Schmid and Norma Schmid, and great-grandson, Corey Schmid, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by a sister, Marilyn, son Bob, son Larry and wife Ann, son David and wife Donna and daughter-in-law, Virgene Schmid, 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

The family is grateful for the loving care she received the past five years at St. Luke’s.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request a gift to either Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School or First English Lutheran Church.

She was such a bright light and gentle woman. It was a pleasure to know her. May God surround you with comfort and peace as you picture her Homecoming in Heaven.
