“Such a beautiful woman who touched so many lives... I always considered her one of the "important" people of Sioux Rapids... she would've told me that she was just a normal citizen. Her legacy lives on (as does Dave's & Walter's) in this town for the "oldies" like me. Joan impacted my life for over three decades and I will miss her smile and contagious laughter. We should all aspire to be a little more like her. ❤️”

“I loved every opportunity I had to visit my Aunt Joan. My father, Jay, was always very grateful for her warm welcomes home and the great care she provided to Walter and Violet and Great Aunt Dorothy. She was the heart of our Iowa family, and I like to think her passing reconnects her with all those loved ones who went before her, especially Dave, Walter, Dad, and after so many years her beloved mother, Margaret. God Bless you Aunt Joan. Love to the Baileys and Simonsens.”

“I express my deepest sympathy to the Bailey family. My twin sister, Miriam, and I graduated from high school with Joan in 1955. Joan was a very caring person . We visited her at her apartment in Spirit Lake about 5 years ago. We knocked and she said" come in". When we did she said "Oh my goodness your'e the Hanson twins. That is the last time we saw her and we had a good visit at that time. ”

“Dear Bailey Family-I loved Joan. We enjoyed each other's company when I went to play the piano for the sing-alongs at the care center. She was a true joy. I sang our favorite hymns to her when I went to visit this past Sunday. She told me over and over, "I love you." I told her that I loved her as well. She will always have a special place in my heart. Please know that my prayers are joined with yours as Joan sees our Lord. The promise of salvation is our hope.”
