“I must confess that I am completely shocked and saddened by the news of Jake's untimely passing. Jake and I worked together as union organizers in the early 1980s and became fast friends. Some of the happiest memories I have are of my trip to Iowa to visit him. It was like one of those corny "city girl meets country boy" visits. He taught me things such as black and white cows are not necessarily for milk and brown cows are not necessarily for hamburger and you don't go into a country bar asking for a Grand Marnier. He also taught me to make a "good" cup of coffee (he did make the best coffee I ever had). I also had the pleasure of spending time with his beautiful mom. He was the kindest, most gentle soul I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We kept in touch throughout the years, but I never made it back to Iowa for another visit. There will always be a place in my heart for you, Jake. xx To his family and friends, my heart aches with you. ”

“Jake and I spent many years together playing music. Mostly in a bluegrass band called "Pride of the Prairie", along with Dwight Deason and John Purk. I will never forget those long nights singing Louvin Brothers songs and drinking beer on the Cedar River in Cedar Falls. Jake was a great tenor harmony singer and our voices seemed to be meant for each other. I'll miss him. Know that you were loved by many, my friend.
