“Dick and Carmen: I could not believe seeing Jake's obituary on line. I always used to run into him at the library and we had such good visits. I had not seen him in months and now I am just heart sick to read of his passing. What a unique individual Jake was, and is, and I am going to miss seeing him and his good ole Blue Mercury around town. I want to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family over the loss of Jake. He was a fantastic human being. I have a standing appointment on the day of Jake's service, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Would love to see you when in town if you get the time. Give me a call if you can. I Love You All, Kathy Remillard”

“Jake and I spent many years together playing music. Mostly in a bluegrass band called "Pride of the Prairie", along with Dwight Deason and John Purk. I will never forget those long nights singing Louvin Brothers songs and drinking beer on the Cedar River in Cedar Falls. Jake was a great tenor harmony singer and our voices seemed to be meant for each other. I'll miss him. Know that you were loved by many, my friend.
