Karl Eugene Baish, the son of Ernest and Emily (Kachele) Baish, was born on May 12, 1928, on the family farm in the rural Spencer area.  He attended country schools in Clay County and graduated from Greenville High School.  After his schooling, he worked for several area farmers until entering the military.  Karl entered the military on March 7, 1951, and served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on February 24, 1953.

He married Janice Rae Lundt on December 4, 1954, in Spencer, Iowa.  Following their marriage, they farmed her family farm near Linn Grove until their retirement in 1995.  Karl was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer and served on several boards. He was a member and past officer of the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer.  Karl loved building things and tinkering around on the farm.  He enjoyed cards and playing pool at the Senior Center, as well as attending his granddaughter, Sarah’s school events.  He enjoyed going to the Pizza Ranch with his family every Tuesday, and to HyVee for coffee with his friends.  Karl could sit and visit with anybody.

“David & family,
We want to express our sympathies to you and your family,
We visited with Karl many times in HyVee. He loved to visit with people. A wonderful trait.
May God be near during these difficult days and in those to come. That is our prayer.
(I was your 2nd. grade teacher many years ago, and I recall conferences with your Mom....a sweet lady)”
