Rick Allen Dietrich, the son of Alvin Dietrich and Mary Grover, was born on March 5, 1959, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The family moved to Everly during his middle school years, where he attended school and graduated from Everly High School in 1977. While in high school he loved playing football, basketball and other sports. After graduation Rick attended University of Iowa for a short time in the coaching program. Rick moved to Laurens, IA. He also lived in the communities of Atlanta, GA and Scranton, PA before settling in Spencer over 20 years ago.

When he came to Spencer Rick worked for Rembrandt Enterprises, Eaton’s and A&M Laundry until he encountered health problems two years ago.

He would always have several TV’s on of different sporting events. You could ask him any questions about sports and he would know the answer. He enjoyed spending time on Friday nights with his friends at 5:13 for Happy Hour.

He passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Care Center in Primghar, IA at the age of 59. He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents: George and Mary Laubenthal and Gus and Mabel Dietrich.

“Angie and family, Rick will be missed dearly! I got to know Rick when I would go to Jake's and we hit it right off, both being huge Hawkeye fans! We watched many games together there and celebrated some bowl wins! Even after I moved away for awhile, when I would come back, Rick was always there to talk about the Hawks and he would make sure to give me as much grief as he could about his beloved Vikings and his hated Packers (my team!) I'm sure going to miss times, but will also cherish those memories together! Rest in peace, Rick! GO HAWKS!!!”
