Leah Susan Krebs, “Sue”, left this world on February 21, 2019, but her larger-than-life persona and trademark humor will not be forgotten.  She will be missed by many but most of all, Folgers Coffee, who is devastated by the loss of Sue.

Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sue was raised by a gang of feisty Italians that included her parents Adolph Angelo Guarill and Bess Giocomarra Guarill. She grew up with her brothers, Mick and David, in a lively, pasta-filled home.

After graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1964, she enrolled in Stewart’s School of Beauty in Sioux City, Iowa. Not wanting to be a beauty school dropout, she finished school and headed back to Fort Dodge where she met and married a tall, handsome, slightly goofy gentleman, Ed Krebs. They were married on Sept. 14, 1968 and moved to Spencer. Ed was wise enough to go along with whatever adventure she led them on, which were many. If you never chased an ambulance with Sue, you haven’t lived. In Spencer, Sue’s decades long career included Founder and CEO of Sue’s Beauty Salon. If you were a customer, you know it was more than a haircut or perm. You were fed, drank copious amounts of coffee, listened to story upon story of her kids and grandkids, received unsolicited advice, and became a friend for life. She now leaves many local residents shaggy and unkempt.

World-renowned for her many homemade sweets and dishes, she loved feeding people and bringing people together. Sue welcomed everyone into her kitchen with open arms and treated them like family, often times making them change a light bulb or take out the trash…just like family. She was a lover of words in all forms; New York Times crossword puzzle, Boggle, puns, library books, and wildly inappropriate comments.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, whom she is now waking up from a nap and making go to the store; her parents; her brothers Mick and David; and her son Joe Minnehan.

Sue is missed and survived by her children Lucas Krebs and wife Kristen Krebs of Philadelphia; Katie Krebs and husband Chris Morton of Minneapolis; her grandchildren that she loved to ply with sugar: Vinny, Dominic and Roman Morton; Avery, Devin and Reagan Krebs; Sarah and Katie Minnehan; as well as many, many dear friends.

We loved her for her laughter, her verve, her nerve and her heart. Our lives are better for having been loved    by Sue.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family, or simply make someone smile today with an unexpected act of kindness or a good joke.

Happy trails, Susie!

“Sue always brightened the room when she entered. Helped everyone celebrate 'being'. A mentor. Far from a beauty school drop out, she created beauty whenever she 'dropped in.' ”

“Luke, Katie and family! We are so sad to hear about your mother's passing. We have wonderful memories of your mom from when we lived in Spencer. She was always so friendly and always made you feel so good when you were with her. Enjoyed our many visits while having hair cuts (lots of talking and laughing) and remember the time she introduced us to her breakfast burritos. Yummy! She was a wonderful friend to everyone! She will be missed by many! May her life live on through her family and friends! May God be your strength through this difficult time! Blessings to your family! P.S. Loved the obituary write up!

“Katie, Luke and Families, your mom, dad and each of you have meant so much to me over the years. From sleepovers, to after-softball meet ups at your house, to our days of ‘OK Painting’, your mom and her loving, larger than life, free spirit always welcomed us with a smile, a hug and soooo much great food. As a kid I admired her ability to attract so many true friends. As an adult I recognize (and admire) the work she put in to everyone of us to ensure we felt special and loved in her presence. May her beautiful and admirable free spirit, now fly free. I love you Sue Krebs. I will miss you. I love you Katie and Luke. ❤️”

“I will always remember Sue and her ability to make anyone laugh - outloud- and sometimes at the most inappropriate times. She cut my hair, my kids' hair and supplied me with Freeze and Shine by the gallon when Jen was in Jr. High and High School during the "Big Bang" era (which had nothing to do with Physics). And, oh, the wigs she did for me at SCT! She was loved by all who knew her. I hope she and Ed and my Mom are having a good laugh in heaven. Sue was a such a great lady. I will miss her.”

“Luke, Katie and all your family, my condolences to you! I was shocked and so sad when I learned of your mom's passing. I saw her at the beginning of January and she was so happy to talk about each of you and your families. She shared with my daughter, Mary, about Ed's New Year tradition of making popcorn without the lid on and how much the grandkids enjoyed that! God's peace to each of you. ”

“Sue's remarkable spirit will live on with her children and grandchildren as well as with all of us privileged to have known and loved her. She invited us in with open arms and with such a kind, generous, and joyous heart, and so many of our memories of Sue are filled with the laughter that was always a part of any adventure with her. Only Sue would think to send us a Xmas card signed "Janis" that actually included a piece of her heart. I can just see her smile as she sealed that envelope, and she knew she could both initially puzzle me and then get me to laugh out loud. She will always have a piece of my heart, and we will always treasure the experiences we shared.
With our love and deepest sympathy,
Roger, Linda, Chris, and Carly Littlefield
