     Darrel Dean Madson, the son of Carl and Pearl (Fitsimmons) Madson was born on June 30, 1938, in Spencer, Iowa. He went to school at Cornell Consolidated and graduated in 1956. He attended college at Iowa State University part of one year. Darrel enlisted in the Armed Forces serving in the Army National Guard. He was discharged om January 31, 1962.

     On December 28, 1957, he married Carole Tielbur and they started farming near Webb, Iowa. He loved horses. He was a member of the Palimino Drill team with his parents. He showed quarter horses at shows when he was a teenager. He was a driver of a chuckwagon at the races in Spencer and surrounding area. He was also in the circus parades in Chicago and Milwaukee for several years. In later years he began showing draft horses, first Belgian and later Percherons.

     He left Iowa in 1986, quit farming and moved to Colorado to work on horse farms, raising and showing Percheron Horses. In 1990 they moved to Michigan to a farm and resort to take care and to show their Percheron horses.  He traveled the U.S. from as far east as Washington DC, west to Colorado, south to Florida and many states in between. He retired from showing horses in 2000 and moved to Indiana and drove a grain truck for a local elevator until 2009, when he retired for good.

     Darrel passed away on March 25, 2019, at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joyce Johnson and an infant daughter, Jody Lynn.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carole of Webb, IA; his two sons: Bill Madson and his wife Janeen of Webb, IA and Jeff Madson and his wife, Colleen of Greenville, IA; his daughter, Kelly Woodbury and her husband, Dean of Winchester, IN; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Grace Kunz of Kansas City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Military Flag Service conducted by the Glen Pedersen Post #1 and the V.F.W. Clay County Post #1.

There will be a reception at the First Congregational Church in Spencer, folowing the service.


In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimers Association
