Regina Christina Harleman, the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Peters) Henkel, was born January 14, 1927, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was raised and attended school in Spencer, Iowa, graduating in 1945.
Following high school, she worked at various places including Bjornstad’s Hardware and Drugstore as a bookkeeper for several years, and as a secretary for the Spencer High School Activity Director, until her retirement. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, VFW and the American Legion. She was known as “The Daffodil Lady”, for bringing the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days to Spencer. She was a member of the Business Professional Women where she also served as president. She was a recipient of the Governor’s Award, for being recognized as a volunteer. Regina enjoyed fishing with George in her younger days. She liked to sing, play bingo (her lucky number was 13), baseball, birdwatching, flowers, and spending time with her family.

She passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Northshire Residence at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in 2003; and sisters: Ann Marie Henkel and Opal Frerichs.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Michael (Mary) and Donnie, both of Spencer, IA; daughter, Georgia Ann Moffitt (Bryan) of Estherville, IA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a grandson who was deployed to Kuwait last week to defend  our country; sister, Violet McClaire of CA; other relatives and friends.

“All my family wishes to pay tribute to our Aunt Regina and offer our condolences to Mike, Ann, and Donnie Harleman as well as Joan and her family for this loss of such a great leader to our families. She was a great mother, teacher, and inspiration to us all as well as the community as a whole. I can say she was also very kind and never once did I hear a harsh word from her. Gina will be missed by her family that adored her but they will carry the torch as she taught them. George Junior is now with her again for eternity,r their love never ended. We promise to always keep you in our hearts and minds!”

“My condolences go out to Mike, Don & families. I only knew Regina through the daffodils sales every year, and through her sons and grandchildren. But that was all I needed to know she had a good heart. May your memories of her live on in you and may your faith sustain you during the difficult times ahead.”

“Donnie and Mike,
We have sooooo many fond memories of Regina (and Grandpa George) from the years together on the Spencer Volunteer Fire Dept. They made the activities and get togethers like dept picnics and water fights feel like family time. They were both loved by all that knew them. Regina was so faithful in supporting the fire dept and its auxiliary. She acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries for everyone on the dept. And one can never forget her role as "the Daffodil Lady" with her tireless efforts to promote the sale and delivery of bouquets of daffodils to support cancer awareness. She had such a big heart and will be missed by so many that were honored to have known her. During this time of sorrow, may you always be aware of the Lord's abiding love and may wonderful memories bring you comfort and peace. She and Grandpa are now together again.
With our deepest sympathy-Tom and Mary Galik”
