Beverly Kohn was born January 17, 1925 to Wesley and Estella Kohn. She was raised on the family farm north of Spencer and attended the nearby one room school house, and then graduated from Spencer High School in 1942. She attended Hamline University in St Paul, Minnesota where she received a Bachelor of Science, with a nursing degree.

In 1949 she married Dick Beving. To this union was born three daughters- Jill, Nancy and Lois. The girls were raised on Dick’s family farm two miles west of Fostoria.

Beverly enjoyed home making and had many hobbies. She was also an active member of American Association of University Women and helped start their annual fundraising book sale. She played handbells at Grace United Methodist church for several years and was an active member in church activities. She enjoyed sewing for others and for several years made custom windsocks for family members and friends.

Beverly enjoyed her flower garden.  When she and Dick retired from farming and moved to Lake Okoboji in 1988, she had fun planting perennials around that new home. Dick and Beverly kept busy during retirement. They traveled to Hawaii, took a cruise to Alaska and went to visit their daughters who lived out of state.

When the grandchildren came along, Beverly was a wonderful grandma.  She was spirited and would participate in whatever activities interested her grandkids.

In 1997 Dick and Beverly sold their lake home and moved to the Highlands retirement apartments in south Spencer. They made new friends and participated in activities there. Beverly continued to enjoy sewing projects, Jazzercise, and swim aerobics class.

Beverly passed away April 14, 2019 at St Luke’s Nursing Home at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, daughter Jill, and sister Phyllis Heikens.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister Mariel Oftelie ( Phil) of Omaha, daughter Nancy Duck (Gene) of Oklahoma, daughter Lois Benson  (Paul), two grandchildren Sarah Burkhart of Oklahoma and Dirk Benson of Spencer, and one great grandson, Eric Burkhart of Oklahoma, other family members and friends.

“Beving family,
When you girls were little, I babysat for you. Until my parents died, I would see your mother whenever I visited my dad at St. Luke's. She was always an upbeat person with a personality that was fun and sincere.
Our mothers lived good, long lives as farmer's wives, not always an easy job. Still I think they loved it.
You have my deepest sympathy for the pain of separation that you feel.
Love to you and yours,
Sandra Ott Fisk

“So sorry for your loss. Bev was a gem. I loved having her in my fitness class. She was such a joy. I remember when I started teaching at the Y she came to class. Not to participate but to give me an apple for the teacher. She had a kind heart and great smiles. Hugs to you and your family.
