Kenneth “Kenny” Johannsen, 71, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at his home surrounded by his wife Vicki of 47 years, daughter Toshia and son Ryan.  Kenny was born September 16, 1947 in Spencer, Iowa to Burdette “Friday” and Thelma Johannsen.

His childhood years were spent in Spencer where he received his early education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1965.  After graduation he was drafted into the Army in October of 1966 to September of 1968.  He met his future wife Vicki Walker in 1969 and they were united in marriage on May 20, 1972.  To this union, two children were born: Toshia and Ryan.

Kenny worked at Arnold Motor Supply for many years before leaving in 1979 to start his own sign business ‘Spencer Signs’.  He ran his shop until September 2018 when he retired.

Kenny had a passion for building, working on (with his son Ryan) and driving his street rods.  Kenny and Ryan built many of their cars from the ground up.  His main passions in life were spending time with his grandkids, Tateum and Broedy, who were the loves of his life, street rodding, where he met so many good friends, and building cars.

He is survived by his wife Vicki of 47 years, daughter Toshia Johannsen, son Ryan (Sharon) Johannsen, grandchildren Tateum and Broedy, brother Gerald (Monica) Johannsen, sister-in-law Cindy Johannsen, his cat Penut, many nieces and nephews and a host of very good friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Gaylen and Peter, brother-in-law Steve Walker, and father-in-law Arnie Walker.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Kenneth's name.

“Our hearts go out to all the Johannesen family. You could never meet a nicer man...Kenny was the best! He always had a kind word and upbeat personality. His talent was amazing. When Brittney was little he made a wooden sign for her playroom...I'm so glad we still have it. Loved seeing him in his many cars...RIP Kenny! We will miss you!! Doug and Cindi Seibold”
