Dave Duane Nissen, the son of Harold C. and Gladys J. Johnson Nissen, was born November 16, 1955, in Spencer, Iowa.  Dave graduated from the Spencer High School in 1974.  He furthered his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Dave worked as a meat cutter for 43 years at The Butcher Shop, Super Valu, Fareway, Greenville Locker, Laurens Locker and trimmed and cut all the fine meat products at Weasy’s Lounge and Grill.
Dave played fast pitch softball with the Spencer Budweiser team in the 1970’s and 1980’s, making a team trip to Stockton California for the National Softball Tournament in 1979.
He loved watching sports, especially the Braves, Raiders, Tiger Woods and the Iowa State Cyclones.  One of his favorite past times was “Monday Funday” at Weasy’s catching up with his friends.  He especially loved spending time with his family and hosting a family picnic at his home the first Sunday in August for the past 20 years.  Dave was very particular about his yard, he loved having it groomed to perfection – never a weed or leaf to be seen!
Dave passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 63.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Denny (Molly), Greg and Ronald Nissen; and nephew, Brett Nissen.
He is survived by his sisters: Delores Koehlmoos of Storm lake, Dorie (Virgil) Hatfield of Lakefield, MN; brother, Steve (Pat) Nissen of Spencer; sisters-in-law: Robbin Nissen of Marathon and Vicki Nissen of Arizona; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family present will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at
Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

“I just learned of Daves (Dobby) passing today. I met him when I was bartending at Weasys. He'd be sitting there awaiting my, arrival after finishing his cutting of the meats, so that he didn't have to get up to get his own beer anymore. 😂 He always had some kind of wise crack directed at me, or picking on my choice of military branches (USAF veteran & he'd give me a hard time). We had a lot of good laughs, usually at my expense. My condolences to the Nissen family, friends, and loved ones. 💗💗”

“So very saddened to hear about the passing of one of my longest and best friends. Remembering the many memories from little league to Tiger baseball to softball and the many nights out and about, always making Gladys very proud of our antics. My Best Man who ensured a bachelor party to remember......(mostly). So many great times together, except, when I had to listen to Dave sing every verse of American Pie while cruising Grand Ave. As I am reading the other condolences it is wonderful to see how Dave touched so many lives in fun, loving, memorable ways. You will be missed my friend. Rest in peace.”

“Nissen Family,
Thinking about all of you & sending big hugs!💙
I will always remember Dave umpiring for our softball 🥎 team and ALWAYS calling the first pitch a strike on me no matter where the pitch was because he hated that I wouldn’t swing until I had a strike!!
I have fond memories of him when our boys were growing up. I can thank him for teaching Eric, at about age 3, to use the F word!!
He is in a better place now & will be reunited with his Mom, brothers & nephew Brett!💙 RIP

“So very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I always enjoyed having a visit with him at Weasey's and he was always so kind to mom if she was along. Breaks my heart that another Nissen brother is gone too soon. I grew up with all of you and always felt that special connection of good neighbors and friends. Special hugs to my dear friend, Dori and to Steve and to Delores and all their families that loved him dearly. His family was special to him and I am so sorry that I never joined them for one of Dave's big picinic feasts! RIP. will be missed. Vicki Rosa (Seversen)”
