Virginia Ruth Heikens, the youngest daughter of John and Nora (Phipps) Miller, was born July 9, 1928 in Hartley, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent near Hartley, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Hartley High School as class Valedictorian, following graduation she worked in the Hotel Tangney gift shop in Spencer.

Virginia married Dale Heikens on February 5, 1950. Throughout their married life, they farmed north of Spencer, Iowa.  They were active members of Zion United Methodist Church.  Virginia and her husband, Dale enjoyed 43 years together before his death in 1993.

Virginia was a loving mother and farm wife, growing vegetable and flower gardens and helping with 4-H projects for the Clay County Fair.  She was a gracious entertainer, enjoyed sewing, baking, floral design, painting, decorating and riding in the bow of the boat while Dale was fishing.

In her retirement years Virginia spent summers at Lake Okoboji and winters in Norfolk, Virginia with Joan and Tom, she enjoyed watching the many birds in their yard, finding shells on the beach, shopping and traveling with them. When she called friends and family she always said, “This is Virginia from Virginia”.

In 2012 Heritage Landing in Milford became her permanent residence where she enjoyed the sunset views from her apartment and visiting with her neighbors.

Virginia passed away peacefully January 12, 2020 at St Luke’s Nursing Home at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, five sisters and five brothers.

Left to cherish her memory are her, daughter Joan Heikens and husband Thomas Pink of Norfolk, Virginia, many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
