Verlie Amis, daughter of Marvin and Orvilla (Prather) Schenatzki was born December 8, 1937 in Truesdale, IA.  Following her graduation, she attended Buena Vista College, receiving a two-year teaching certificate.  Later in 1983, she graduated with a B.S. Degree in elementary education from Buena Vista College.  She taught in Aurelia 3 years, Spencer 1 year and Clay Central for 28 years retiring in 1999.

She married Everett Amis, of Greenville in August of 1960.  A son, Jeff was welcomed to the family in 1961.

Verlie shared her husband’s enthusiasm for antique cars and tractors and together they participated in many parades. She served as President of the Iowa Great Lakes Antique Car Club.  She loved her church in Greenville, serving as organist, pianist, Sunday school teacher, Ladies’ Aid President, Church Board secretary/clerk, and Trustee.  Verlie loved to garden and in her spare time, she participated in other social activities: President of Lincoln Willing Worker’s Club, secretary of Royal Federated Women’s Club, member of the Parker Museum Board, serving on the Educational Committee who traveled to all 4th grade classes in Clay County and then serving as a docent to guide the children through the Museum.  She served as a volunteer at the Red Cross Blood Mobile for many years.  The Clay County Fair was very special to Verlie; she helped her husband with the Cattle Department, volunteered in the Art & Crafts Dept., the Baked Goods Dept. and 4-H.  She made it her goal to attend the Fair, everyday-all day!

Verlie passed away at her home in Greenville on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the age of 82.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett in 2018; two sisters in their childhood, Cleota & Illa Mae; another sister, Irene Mallett; two brothers and their wives: Rodney and Iris Schenatzki and Edward and Marge Schenatzki

Left to cherish her memory is a son, Jeff & his wife, Teresa of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, Mallory and Andrew in addition to several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

“To Jeff & Family: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother, especially after Everett left us only a year ago. I have known your folks since I was just a youngster. Ev and I enjoyed racing through our lives and he was always thrilled that my racing number was 5X while he drove the Flimsy 5. He was always interested in how we ran and ask my Dad when he stopped in. I also helped on the farm occasionally with field work and shingling buildings/etc. Your parents will definitely be missed at the Greenville-Rossie Class Renunions. They did so much for its success.

so sorry for the loss of your mother , Jeff. May God ease your pain and give you peace. She was great at helping others and giving so much of herself. And I am sure she had a great and close relationship with Jesus Christ and God and they will prepare a special place for her in heaven.

“Verlie was a sweet person and gave inspiration to others. She was Joel's special teacher in grade school. Joel wanted an A on a test and she helped him and she called me at work and told me he had gotten an A and the happiness on his face was why she loved being a teacher. I've always have had a special place in my heart for her. She sure will be missed. Thank you for all you did to help our children learn and grow! RIP ”

“We were shocked to hear of Verlie's passing. Our prayers are with you, Jeff, and your family. I have so many memories of the 3 of us arriving extra early to school, get our materials ready for the day and then taking a few minutes out for coffee and conversation together before the buses arrived. We couldn't solve all the issues at hand, but we tried. It was a great way to start out days at CCE.
May God give you strength and peace at this time and always. ”

“Jeff I was so shocked to hear of Verlies passing. It seems like just weeks ago we talked. She was so special and we shared that love of the fair. She and I fought at clay central to have days off for the fair. Not everyone shared our love of it. She loved you sooo much. Take care.”

“So sorry to hear of Verlie's passing, we just talked to her a couple weeks ago. She and Everett were good friends of my father and they both were at my wedding 13 years ago this month. She was so awesome and always welcomed visits from my Dad and my daughter. He always had veggies and fruits for her in the summer and meats. Their chats helped him get through missing my mom after she passed. She will forever be missed by her family and friends, but God has another angel and she is back with Everett. And I know that they are both smiling and will forever watch over those they met here on earth. ”

“to family of Verlie Amis. You have my condolences. I grew up hearing praises of dear Verlie Amis from my mom Natalie Salton who has been friends with Verlie for many years. Mom grew up across road to north of Albert City Threshermens’site. Mom in her 80’s drove from Ruthven to Albert City especially so she could see and sing with Verlie. May you find comfort in sweet memories of which I’m sure you have many. God’s peace, LaVonne & Gary”

“Oh my! I am so sorry for your loss, Jeff and family. I worked with Verlie at CC/E Middle School. So many memories of daily team meetings with her and all the ups and downs that go with the education field. One of my happiest memories with Verlie was the mission trip I invited her to take with me in ND to help victims of flooding. We had such a great time and once again shared those memories about 4 months ago. She had a great faith. I look forward to seeing her in heaven some day. ❤️”
