Beverly Joan Johnson, the daughter of Joseph and Loretta (Kindred) Fasbender, was born August 22, 1931 in Lake City, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent in Lake City, Cylinder and then Spencer in her youth where she has lived ever since.  Bev received most of her education in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School.

On January 29, 1949, Beverly married Marvin Johnson in Jackson, MN.  Throughout their marriage, they have made their home in Spencer, where she was able to be a stay at home Mom before later working for a number of years in retail sales.

Throughout the years she worked for JC Penney downtown,  Ellerbroek’s, Stage and later JC Penney’s South Park Mall until her retirement.  She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.  She enjoyed reading, getting together with her JC Penney’s friends, going for walks, spending time visiting friends and staying in touch with all the grandchildren attending their activities when she was able to.

Bev passed away at her home in Spencer on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the age of 88.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin in 1992 and a son-in-law, Thomas Slawson.

Left to cherish her memory are 4 daughters: Linda (Alan) Miller, Toni Corcoran, Cody Slawson and Gina Ean all of Spencer; one son, Jan (Anne) Johnson of Walford, IA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

“To Bev's family. Family events were not complete until Bev was there. She definitely was an anchor in our family. We always looked forward to her presence. Growing up, Bev was a big part of my life. "Back in the day", she and I worked together at the bowling alley, when it was on West 4th St. This was after doing lots! of babysitting, for Marv and her. Later, we would be working together at JC Penney. Lots of fun times, and, so many good memories with Bev. I remember her generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness of others. Me, and my family, will miss Bev. Love to all, Aunt Marilyn ”

“Most know her as Beverly or just Bev. To me she is Grandma Johnson or Granny J. When I was little she took me to the Grotto and gave me $10 to spend on souvineirs and I felt like the richest girl in the world. We were also pin pals as my family lived in Arizona and Germany and if I had to put money on it she still has all those letters I wrote to her stored away somewhere. We have a lot in common, our looks (I have always been told I look like a Johnson), our passion for reading, our enjoyment in little things like a bubble bath, and our greatest love being our family. We lost a wonderful member of our family, but not in spirit. I love you Granny J! Libby”
