Lenore  “Connie” Alger was born Lenore Gertrude O’Connor on August 7, 1922 at the home of her parents, Tom and Myrtle O’Connor in Cartersville, Iowa. She grew up enjoying life in that small town and on the family farmland. An excellent student, she graduated from Rockwell High School at 16, shortly before her father suddenly passed. She later attended beauty school and was in that profession for nearly fifty years until she retired. She spent most of her working years with Blair House of Beauty, Design Masters and her own salon “Connie’s” in Spencer. She married Glen Alger on June 2, 1946, and over the course of more than five decades they saw their family of seven children grow to a large and loving group by the time Glen passed away in 1998. Her retirement was filled with family time and her habit of voracious reading of dozens of books every year until her death. Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Alger, by her parents, Glen’s parents Bob and Mildred Alger of Spencer, IA, her brother Richard O’Connor and his wife Myrtle of Rockford, IA, her brothers-in-law, Earl Alger and his wife Cleone of Laurens, IA, Gale Alger and his wife Shirley of Gillett Grove, IA, and Bob, Jr, of Arnold’s Park, IA, her sister-in-law, Vera and her husband, Harley Brackey of Laurens and her daughter-in-law, Judy Alger of Emmetsburg, IA. She is survived by four sons: Tom (Marilyn), Chris (Bobbi), Scott (Char) and Todd (Kirsten) and three daughters: Vicki (Keith) Peterson, Deb (Ron) Miller and Kim (Marty) Martin and a sister-in-law, Rose Alger. Surviving grandchildren include Brian, Eric, Alex, Jerad, Jeff, Josh, Livy and Tyler Alger, and Marguerite Sullivan, Pete Peterson, Erin Peterson, Nick Miller, Emily Grimley, Amanda Savage, Joe Franker, Tony Franker, Bennie Sejnoha, and Clare Martin. Connie also had six step-grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and countless family friends. A private family service on April 14 will be followed by internment at Riverside Cemetery. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.

A Public Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.

The family requests no flowers.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.

“So sorry to hear that Connie has passed. I always enjoyed visiting with her during my night rounds at Riverview. Connie knew she was one of my favorite ladies. She so enjoyed the time I brought my puppy to see her. I miss our visits. May you find comfort and joy in your memories of such a sweet lady!”

“I was so privileged to work with Connie at Design Masters. We were amazed her clients could hear her as she had such a quiet voice!! Did all you kids hear her?!?? We had many good talks in the 'break' room and many laughs!! What a stately lady-she always looked top-notched!! I appreciate that Scott would always tell me about her and how she was doing. God has a 'special' lady in heaven with Him!!
Blessings to all of you!!”

“Dear Alger family,
Please accept my condolence and deep regrets for your loss at this painful time of grief for I lost my entire family to this enemy death and I'd like to share where I found help at that time. I found comfort and hope in what I read in Jehovah Gods word the Bible at John5:28,29 there we' re told we'll see our love ones again at the resurrection when Jesus brings them back here on earth and we're also told at ICorinthians15:54 that this enemy death will be gone forever. These scriptures with help me cope with my loss and get through each day because now I know I'll see my love ones again and so can you. I wanted to share this with you now when hope and comfort is needed in hopes that this will help you also for this is my purpose in sharing this with you at this time and please know that I do share your grief and hope you'll feel free to let me know if this helped in some way. I hope to hear from you. Sincerely, GM”

“I was sorry to hear about your mother. Once they are gone, there is no one to ask about the past. Even if they are old and have lived a good life, it is still hard to be without her. I still catch myself thinking about things I want to tell Mom!”
