Thomas M. Willey, the son of Merle and Stella (Poe) Willey, was born January 14, 1934 in Sutherland, Iowa. He was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and later helping with the younger scouts. He attended K-12th grade at Sutherland Consolidated School, graduating in 1952. Tom married Roanne “Jean” Smith on March 2, 1960 at LeMars, Iowa. They moved to the Los Angeles, California area where he worked for Douglas aircraft and Terry Coach Travel Trailers and later moved back to Iowa and worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, IA. When Eaton Corporation came to Spencer, he began his employment there which lasted 22 years before he retired.  He then took part time employment with Splash and Sparkle and Laser Car Washes, where he enjoyed his customers.

Tom was an avid duck and goose hunter and enjoyed the sport very much for many years.  He was a devoted fan of the Gaither Homecoming Gospel Singers and enjoyed going to as many concerts as possible. Tom was a member of the Okoboji Summer Theatre Association and enjoyed the students very much. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Stella of Sutherland, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and George Tippy of Storm Lake and brother, Sidney of Wahpeton, IA.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Jean; daughter, Dawn Michelle, granddaughter, grandson, great grandson, Gage Thomas, special friend, Kirstin Racicot, who brought him much joy; a sister-in-law, Carol Willey of Wahpeton; nieces, nephews and many friends, especially his coffee friends.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial service.

“To the family of Tom,
I knew Tom from Eaton and always enjoying talking to him. I ran into him several times over the past couple of years, prior to my move to Cedar Rapids, and it was nice to catch up. The one time was at the flea market at the lakes. Not sure that we browsed much because we visited for so long. My wife mentioned that it is a small world because she was good friends of Marcia Tippy, George and Betty's daughter, as a classmate in Storm Lake. I am sorry for your loss. During this time of sorrow, may you always be aware of the Lord's abiding love and may many fond memories sustain you in the days ahead. Tom Galik
