“Dear Hillegas Family,

I am so sad to hear of Jerry's death. Jerry added depth and color to the very fabric of our class of '78. He was considerate and dependable, and I never knew him to utter an unkind word to, or about, anyone. I was so glad to have seen him at the last class reunion. My heart aches for your loss. May God surround you with love and peace.”

“So shocked and sorry to hear of This news. I coached Jerry on the Everly JV basketball. I gave him the nickname “Mad Dog”. Jerry was one of those kids that was a joy to be around. His parents hosted an end of the year pizza party at their home for Jerry and his teammates. I would see Jerry from time to time at the post office in recent years. He was always fun to talk to. Peace be with him and his family
