Roger returned to farming.  In August 1953, he met and married Beverly Nielsen, and to this union one child, Ann Marie was born.  Several years later, Beverly passed away.

On December 1, 1963, Roger married Alice Carstensen.  Alice brought a daughter, Ann Marie to this marriage.

Roger continued farming until his retirement in 2000.  He was active in many farm related organizations; a charter member of the Clay County Cattlemen, chosen Cattlemen of the year in 1981; ASC Committee; member on the Spencer Coop Elevator Board for nine years; served as a Township Trustee; and on the election board.  He was a long-time active member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer, Iowa.
