Lois Irene Ginger, 87, retired Registered Nurse, died December 30, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The daughter of Glenn R. Ginger and Luella M. Ginger, she was born December 30, 1933, in Spencer, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm with an older sister (Margaret Ginger Voss) and younger brother (Richard Ginger). Both siblings and her parents preceded her in death.     Lois graduated from Spencer High School in 1952. She then enrolled at The Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating with her R.N. degree in 1955.  Her classmates fondly called her “Ginger” and the nickname followed her throughout her career and life.

After college she worked as an R.N. at the University of the Minnesota. Then she relocated to Houston, Texas, where she was an operating room nurse at Herman Hospital for the next 10 years. She spent the remainder of her career as an operating room nurse at United Methodist Hospital in Houston Texas.

A few years back, Lois moved from Houston to Phoenix to be near her brother and niece. Recently, she moved back to Minnesota where she was very excited to have a white Christmas and experience the four seasons again.  Shortly after she passed away at an assisted living home.

Throughout her life, Lois was strong in her faith. She volunteered at the First United Methodist in Houston, Texas, her home church for many years. She referred to fellow parishioners as her “family”.

Lois always had a deep love for her many pets, both cats and dogs. Her Doberman or Doby, Dutch, was one of her great loves. She opened her heart to caring for and housing many other animals as well. She cherished her pets and her friends. She also had a lifelong passion for traveling and reading, starting from childhood.

Lois is survived by her nieces and nephews Merle Voss, Marlene Voss, Marlin Voss, Martha Voss Killmer, Mary Voss Pollock, Russell Ginger (Evelyn Bergonia Ginger) and Carolyn Ginger.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Northlawn Memorial Park in Spencer.
