Ada Alith Lauck

December 16, 1925 — December 26, 2015

Ada Alith Lauck, the daughter of Alfred and Nora (Brown) Dagfinson, was born December 16, 1925, in Milford, IA. Her childhood years were spent on a farm near Milford where she received her early education. Ada married James Louis Lauck, after dating for five years, on September 2, 1944, in Dakota City, NE. Ada and Jim farmed for many years northwest of Spencer. For them, farming was a partnership, and it was not uncommon for Ada to be working the fields or minding the livestock. Ada was known for her ever-ready smile and feisty 'can-do' attitude. She made friends easily and was always getting hugs and well wishes whenever she was out and about. She was always concerned about the lives of family and friends. Her father came from Norway when he was in his teens, which may account for her feistiness-when it was well deserve! A trip to Norway in 1995 was considered her travel highlight. Ada and Jim loved to dance, their favorite song being, 'Could I Have This Danc... for the rest of my life. Ada was a wizard in her kitchen, probably best known for her desserts, which were frequently sent home with visiting family and friends. 'She was the fastest-from-scratch pie maker I have ever seen' was a well-remembered quote by her son-in-law. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church. She was also a volunteer at the Senior Center among many other organizations. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards. Ada passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James in 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda (Reg) Shoesmith, Bettendorf, IA; son, Dr. James Louis (Dawn) Lauck, Inver Grove Heights, MN; and Diana Lea Lauck, Spencer, IA. Ada and Jim had six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
