Agnes Goecke

September 19, 1910 — January 26, 2009

Agnes Ellen Goecke, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Walz Goecke, was born September 19, 1910 in Estherville, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, where she received her education, graduating from Estherville High School. She later attended and graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. Agnes began her teaching career in Rodman, Iowa and later Buffalo Center, Iowa, until moving to Spencer in 1949. She taught elementary school for 44 years, many of it at Spencer Community School, until her retirement in 1975. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, where she was a member of the BPW. She was also a past member of the AAUW and enjoyed reading, music and theatre. Agnes passed away at her home in Spencer, Iowa on Tuesday, January 26, 2009 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Arnold, Leonard, Raymond, Melvin and Harold and two sisters: Alvina Goecke and Martha McDonald. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Vernon and his wife, Mary Jo Goecke of Estherville, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A Catholic Vigil service will be held 5:30 P.M., Tuesday at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
