Alice Mae Black, the daughter of William and Ina (Darling) Mehan, was born January 11, 1933 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Ayrshire, where she received her education, graduating from Ayrshire High School. Following her schooling, she moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she worked for Securities Acceptance Finance Company for five years.
Alice married William E. Black on January 15, 1955 in Spencer. Following their marriage, Bill owned and operated the DX Station and Alice took care of the accounting for his business while staying home to raise their family. Together they started B & B Auction and worked side by side and she continued for two years following Bill's death. Throughout their married life, they lived on a farm south of Spencer for 38 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Alice also enjoyed dining out, volunteer work and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the age of 81. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1992 and three sisters: Betty, Ina and Mary Lou.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sandra Black of Clear Lake, IA, Sheila (Gary) Prosser of Vermillion, SD, Mary Jo (Greg) Paulsen of Mesa, AZ and Kevin Black of Vermillion, SD; five grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kitty Smith of Ruthven, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

Will begin at 1:00 P.M., Friday with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. and a Catholic Vigil Service will be held at 5:00 P.M. at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
