Alida “Jo” Josephine Tuttle, the daughter of Ray Porter Black and Mable (Cross) Black, was born August 26, 1920, in Webb, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer where she received her education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1938. She lived in Clay County her entire life.
Jo married Harry Tuttle on March 2, 1938, in Papillion, NE. After their marriage, she worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. for 20 years, and later the Hallmark Crown Shop in Spencer for 15 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing craft work and volunteering her time to different organizations. Jo was a proud member of the VFW in Spencer for 70 plus years.
Jo passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, October 2, 2017, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry in 1979; one son, Dean Tuttle; two sisters: Vera Frad and Hazel Walker; and two brothers: Ray, Jr. and William Black.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gerry and his wife, Patricia Tuttle of Okoboji, IA; one daughter, Janet Allen of Spencer, IA; two brothers: Robert Black of Spencer, IA, and James Black of Knoxville, IA; other relatives and many friends.
