Alma Jeane Beck Spears was born to Karoline Olesen Beck and Joseph S. Beck on May 18, 1915 in Greenville, Iowa. She graduated from the Greenville Community School in 1932 and worked in various homes until her marriage to Leonard Spears on March 5, 1933 in Northwood, Iowa. Alma devoted her life to being a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Through out their marriage they lived on their farm in the Greenville area. Upon Leonard's retirement they continued to live on the farm enjoying friends and neighbors. The coffee pot was always on and garden produce was shared with any visitor.
Alma was a lifelong member in the Grace Congregational Church of Greenville and took an active leadership in both the Ladies Fellowship and the Sunday school. Her greatest contribution was embroidered tablecloths donated to the annual God's Portion Sale. Her favorite social activity included a special birthday group.
Alma moved to Spencer in the summer of 1994. She became a resident of Longhouse Nursing Home on June 12, 2012.
She passed away at Spencer Hospital on March 16, 2014 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by husband, Leonard, two sons Richard and Clifford, and 3 siblings Anna Hugunin, Joe Beck and Naomi Schuller.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Edwardson of Spencer, IA. Myra Coover (Maurice) of Spencer, IA., one sister-in-law Lucile Beck of Spencer, IA.and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Spears of Russellville, AR, Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
