Lois Stienstra was born July 31, 1924 in Orange City, Iowa to Ed and Minnie (Jansma) DeJager. Her childhood years were spent in Orange City, IA, where she received her education, graduating from the Orange City High School in 1941. She then graduated from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City in 1943. After graduation from Northwestern, she worked at an insurance agency in Orange City.
Lois married Ivan Stienstra on September 7, 1949 in Orange City. They traveled extensively while Ivan was an examiner with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. They moved to Spencer in October of 1952, when Ivan went to work for Northwest Federal Savings and Loan. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to be with her family.
Lois passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, August 28, 2009 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Grace and her husband, John Muyskens; her brother, Pierce DeJager and his wife, Edna; her sister, Mildred and her husband, Vernon Schoep; and her granddaughter, Katie.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan; two sons: Jim and his wife, Char of Sioux Falls, SD and David and his wife, Kathy of Terre Haute, IN; three grandchildren: Chris and Laura Stienstra of Sioux Falls, SD and Matthew Stienstra of Terre Haute, IN; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
