Maxine Gustin, the daughter of William Harvey and Margaret Wealthy (Austin) Beams, was born October 1, 1918, in Dickens, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Dickens area where she received her education at Lake Center Schools and later Dickens Consolidated School.
Maxine married Maurice King Gustin on October 6, 1934, in Ponca, NE. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Dickens where she took care of her home and raised her family. Maxine cooked at the Gillett Grove Community School. She was an active member of the Dickens United Methodist Church. Maxine was also active in the Dickens Community where she was a member of the Dickens Commercial Club, Freeman Farm Bureau, 4-H Leader and member of the Royal Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, family, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her entire life was spent in the Dickens community with the exception of the last 10 years when she lived in Royal, and last 3 years at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.
Maxine passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA, on Friday, December 11, 2009, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ray; twin grandchildren; her husband, Maurice (Pee Wee) on October 4, 2006, and two sisters: Lilly and Lylla.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Marlin Gustin and his wife, Marcia of Royal, IA; one daughter, Midge Rust of Rice Lake, WI; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Spears of Spencer, IA; one brother, Bill Beams of Spencer, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer at 1:00 P.M.
