Alta Lou Bruns, the daughter of James Albert and Evelyn Ella (Simpson) Handy, was born April 12, 1937 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, where she received her early education. She later finished her education at Sutherland High School.
Alta married Gordon Clemence Bruns on August 29, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage, they raised their family in the communities of Paullina and Primghar, Iowa. They later moved to Royal, Iowa and later Spencer, Iowa, where they made their home for several years. Alta worked as a CNA along with Gordon for 19 years at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, where they cared for many elderly residents throughout the years, until their retirement in 2002. She attended Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
She passed away at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the age of 79. Alta was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Bradley in 1977; one brother, James Handy.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gordon of Ruthven; one son, Bruce Bruns and his wife, Sandy of Sheldon; two daughters: Brenda Japenga and her husband, Dennis of Ruthven and Bridgot Mace and her husband, Mike of Perry, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters: Annabelle (Robert) Busse of Laurens, IA, Melva (Dennis) Koenig of Ruthton, MN and Mary (Orlin) Lunbeck of Royal, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
