Alvena Mae Eldhardt, the daughter of David L. and Kate Ginger, was born June 28, 1920, in Gaza, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Everly, IA. Alvena attended school in Everly, and worked as a cook alongside her mother feeding construction crews until she married Larry Eldhardt on November 26, 1941. Together they farmed south of Peterson, IA for several years. While on the farm she and Larry held barn dances on Saturday nights, which were enjoyed by dozens of couples from around the area. After a time in Nebraska, Alvena moved back to northwest Iowa, where she worked alongside her husband, building homes and raising their son. She loved doing jigsaw puzzles, baking, and having visits from her numerous nieces and nephews. After the death of her husband in 1995, Alvena moved to Spencer to be near family. She lived there until March of 2011 when she moved to a niece's home in Webster City, IA where she lived until her death on January 12, 2012. Alvena was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Eldhardt, her parents, Dave and Kate Ginger, three sisters and their husbands, Arlene and John Baysinger, Alice and Ken Shever, Wanda and Willard Plagman, a niece, Karen Duncan, and her only grandson, William Tell Eldhardt. Alvena is survived by her son, Terry Eldhardt of Florida, a brother and his wife, Wayne and June Ginger of Everly, and many nieces, nephews, as well as great, and great, great and great, great, great nieces and nephews. Known as "Aunt Beanie" to all who loved her so much, she will live on in our hearts and will be sorely missed.
