Amos Christensen, Jr.

Amos LeGrant Christensen, Jr., the son of Amos and Hildur (Johnson) Christensen, Sr., was born August 29, 1930, in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Royal where he received his education, graduating from Royal High School in 1948. Amos began farming with his brother at the age of 14. He continued his education at Iowa State University where he studied agriculture. Amos married Virginia Ann Dykhouse on October 29, 1950, in Royal, Iowa. After their marriage, they farmed, raised livestock and did custom work for many years until they retired and moved to Spencer in 1993. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal where he was a past church board president and Sr. League member. Amos was a member and past president of the Royal Lion's Club and a board member of the Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp. He loved to play cards, bowl and have coffee with his friends. Amos enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's sports and livestock shows. He passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the age of 85. Amos was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lois Mason and her husband, Don and his brother, Harold Christensen. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia of Spencer; his children: Karen Morse of LaGrange Park, IL, Mary Jo Christensen of Bloomington, MN, Diane Sparks and her husband, Dwight of Spencer, IA; Tim Christensen and his wife, Susan of Royal, IA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Barbara Christensen of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established by the family.

Riverside Cemetery Spencer, Iowa 1:00 P.M., Saturday following the lunch at the church.
