Andy Hugo Bents, the son of Andy and Vivian (Dagel) Bents, was born February 2, 1956, in Sibley, IA. His childhood years were spent in Sibley where he received his education. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from 1973 until his honorable discharge in August of 1976.
Andy married Barbara Patrick on March 21, 1975, at the First Congregational Church in Peterson. During the first year of their marriage, they lived in Germany where Andy was stationed in the military. Following his discharge from the service, they returned to Peterson where Andy worked at Morton Buildings and Spencer Construction for a short time. He later began driving a truck for Spencer Ready Mix (Great Lakes Concrete) where he continued to work for the past 34 years. He was known throughout the area by many people for his concrete work and many other concrete projects. Andy was a member of the Congregational Church in Peterson. He was an active member of the Peterson Lion's Club where he held many offices including president.
Andy passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 55 following a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, father-in-law and his grandparents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara of Peterson; two sons: Joe Bents and Brandy Ackerman of Peterson, and David Bents and Lydia Hively of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Teagan Bents and Zoe and Forest Trosin; his mother, Vivian Post; his mother-in-law, Alice Patrick; brothers and sisters: Doug (Dottie) Bents of Florida, Ron (Vianne) Bents of Sioux Falls, SD, Henry (Marcia) Bents of Orange City, IA, and Robin Bents of Sheldon; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
SERVICES
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2011 at the First Congregational Church in Peterson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent directly to the family or given to the funeral home to benefit the family.

Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m., Sunday, with the family present from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Peterson.
