Anice Velma Eslick

Anice Velma Eslick, the daughter of Edward and Virginia McGowan Deen, was born December 9, 1917 in Vilas, CO. Anice received her early education and graduated from the Vilas High School. Following her schooling, Anice worked as a secretary for a Judge in Vilas. Anice married Verdie Leon Lay in 1940, to this union 3 children were born. Anice later began working as a nurse at the Walsh County Hospital and for Dr. Stoner. She married Calvin Laverne Eslick and they moved back to Iowa in 1989 where she lived in Laurens for two years and then Spencer. In her spare time, Anice enjoyed taking care of others, playing games with her family and bird watching. Anice passed away on June 18, 2014 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Leon Lay, Jr.; son-in-law, David Roach; step-children: Bobby Dean Lay and Ulavon Lay;grandchildren: John David Roach, Al Wesley Begley and twins: Kimmy and Tammy Lay; her siblings: Dorothy Hickey,Rachel King, Jesse Deen, Goldie Hall, Evelyn Burg, Clifford Leroy Deen, Gladys Schroder and Doris Schroder. She is survived by her two children: Sharon Roach of Greenville, IA and Jesse LeRoy Lay of Laurens, IA; grandchildren: Calvin (Toni) Lay, Jessica lay, Starla Roach, Sandy (Chris) La Rue, Barry Rosengrant, Gary Rosengrant and Cindy Lay; great grandchildren: Josh (Stephanie Grubb) Lowe, Mitchell (Nicole) Begley, Cristina (Greg) Besaw, Terry Lay, Shawn Lay, Abby Samuelson, Nicolas Samuelson, Colbin La Rue, Caden La Rue and Cael La Rue; great-great grandchildren: Drake Besaw, Parker Besaw, Toreahana Lowe, Tayviah Lowe, Emma Lowe, Christine Lowe, Harper Lowe, Frankie Lowe and Ryden Begley; two special nieces: Ruby and Shirley; many other relatives and friends.
