Ann Sorenson

September 22, 1915 — November 26, 2015

Ann Sorenson, daughter of Gaetana Lipari and Santo Collova, was born September 22, 1915, in Racine Wisconsin. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Church and her childhood years were spent growing up with her four siblings, Frank, Dominic, Rose and Mary. She was united in marriage to Harry S. Sorenson on July 2, 1938 in St. Mary's Parsonage, Racine, WI, where they continued to reside and raised their daughter, Karen. Ann was a devoted wife, homemaker, seamstress, and later a preschool teacher for 25 years. Ann was an exceptional cook, hostess and enjoyed entertaining regularly. Harry and Ann enjoyed traveling the United States. At Harry's retirement from the Racine Police Department in 1968, they relocated to Clearwater, Florida where Ann enjoyed entertaining her friends and families from the north. After Harry's passing in 1971, she then continued her education and became a preschool teacher at KinderCare in Clearwater and remained in that position for 25 years thus touching many children's lives. Numerous annual vacations created a love for the area with daughter Karen and the four granddaughters. Ann treasured her frequent visits from Karen with the granddaughters which created a love for the family tradition and Clearwater Beach. Ann was always willing to recruit an excited grandchild to accompany her for the day at KinderCare. She looked forward to preparing delicious meals, including the favorite spaghetti and meatballs, for her family upon their return from Clearwater Beach and then the following day would send them back to the beach with meatball sandwiches. Fond family memories include: spite and malice card games; the lemon tree; Ann mowing the grass in high heels; haircuts in the garage; catching chameleons; and sand dollars and sea shells. Ann retired to Spencer and resided at Riverview Terrace and St Luke's Lutheran Home prior to her passing. Ann passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2015, at St. Luke's Lutheran Home at the age of 100. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; siblings; Frank, Dominic, and Mary Weinkauf. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Karen Kreul Shinn, formerly of Spencer, Iowa currently residing in Clearwater, Florida; sister, Rose Black, Mesa, Arizona; four granddaughters, Sarah (Brad) Johnson, Susan (Steven) Quail, Pamela (Steven) Haight, Anne (Joseph) Quail; 14 Great Grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Robert, Brooks, Amber, Jennifer, Brittanie, Evan, Chayton, Ethan, Mackenzie, Spencer and Colby; 11 Great-Great Grandchildren, Josalyn, Gunnar, Charleigh, Annabella, Aubrey, Eli, Landen, Stevie-Lin, Landon, Lennox, Harlow, and Henlee.
