Arlene (Vos) Benson, the daughter of William & Artie Vos was born August 30, 1928 in New Sharon, IA. Arlene taught school in a one room schoolhouse for several years. She met her husband when the school bus blocked the driveway and she was delayed for work. Arlene married that school bus driver (LaVern) on March 9, 1951 in New Sharon, IA. They moved to Texas while LaVern was in the service, then to Oskaloosa, Everly, Belle Plaine, Spencer and Newton Upper Falls, MA, then back to Spencer, IA.
Arlene was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer where she started a sewing group to make items for missionaries, served as a Deaconess, and taught Sunday School. For 11 years, Arlene and LaVern served with Teen Missions in Florida, Missions Outreach in Missouri and 15 years with Wycliffe Association in Dallas, TX.
Arlene enjoyed sewing, making cards and cooking as well as taking care of her family. She passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 2 brothers. Left to cherish her memory ; three daughters: Eloise (Dean) Roys of Papillion, NE, Janet Benson of Auburn, IN and Cheryl (LaVern) Bartell of Penrose, CO; 3 granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren.
