Arlene Hamrick, the daughter of Jess and Elsie Mae (Wells) McVey, was born January 19, 1919 in Webb, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Webb, where she received her early education later graduating from Spencer High School.
Arlene married Orley Ralph Hamrick on October 15, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Greenville, Iowa, where she worked at Woolworth's in Spencer for 8 years and at Greenville-Rossie School as a bus driver. Arlene and Orley moved to Spencer in 1963, where she worked at the dietary department at Spencer Hospital for many years, until her retirement. Orley passed away on February 22, 1971. Arlene was a member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. As a couple, they had time with family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and her coffee time twice a day with friends. She did lots of walking around Spencer after retirement. Arlene enjoyed her once a month trips to Jackpot Junction. She also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.
She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the age of 96. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and four brothers: Howard, Harvey, Henry and Richard.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jack and his wife, Charlene Hamrick of Spencer; two grandchildren: Christine (Rob) White and Calvin (Kathi) Hamrick; many great grandchildren and lots of great great grandchildren (she loved the little ones) other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
A Time of Remembrance for family and friends will be held Thursday, September 24th from 6 to 8:00 P.M., at Oneota Park in Spencer.
In keeping with her giving nature, Arlene has requested that her body be donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health in Des Moines.
