Arlene June Triplett, the daughter of John Edward and Dora (McKeighan) Giese, was born February 15, 1934 at home near Avoca, Iowa. She attended country schools in Walnut and Atlantic, Iowa until she moved with her family to Sutherland, Iowa in December 1945. She finished her education at Sutherland where she graduated from Sutherland High School in 1952. After graduation she attended school at NBT in Sioux City, Iowa.
Arlene married Thomas Triplett on December 24, 1952 in Van Buren, Arkansas, while Tom was enlisted in the U.S. Army. Arlene worked at various businesses including, Doug's Café and Lemke Food Market while Tom was overseas in the service.
Tom and Arlene began their career in farming in 1955. They were blessed with 4 children: Darryl, Jeff, Blaine and Kay. They continued farming until their retirement in 2001. She was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Most of all, Arlene loved and was fiercely devoted to her family. She especially enjoyed going to all of their activities and spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had many other hobbies and interests: her flowers and garden (when Tom would not spray or pull the plants instead of weeds), dancing, reading, crocheting and knitting, calligraphy, cards, and games. She was highly competitive in her card playing, always had a hug and smile for her family, and her last words to anyone leaving their home was “watch for deer”.
Arlene passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom in 2019; a son, Blaine and daughter-in-law, Joni; 2 brothers: John Giese and Donald “Gus” Giese and 2 sisters: Colleen Friedrichsen and Violet Meines.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Darryl and his wife, Jean of Primghar, IA, Jeff and his wife, Jodi of Spencer, IA and Kay Sholly and her husband, David of Hartley, IA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
