Arlie Scott Palmer

     Arlie Scott Palmer, the son of William and Nona (Nelson) Palmer, was born on June 1, 1949, in Atlantic, IA. He was raised in Wiota, IA and the family moved to Spencer in 1961. He finished his schooling in Spencer, graduating in 1967. Following graduation, he started on the job training for auto-mechanics with Asher Motor Co, working there until his retirement as Service Manager in 2011.

     On April 13 1985, he married Madelyn Kaiser, bringing with him to this union 4 children: Jeannett, Bill, Toni Jo and Michael from a previous marriage.  Scott was a member of Hope Church.

     Scott most enjoyed and loved spending time with his family doing anything. He never missed a chance to tell you with pride about the adventures and achievements of his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. During younger years he had fun chuck wagon racing, hunting, camping, fishing, golfing, playing pool, watching TV and the last few years he enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds in his backyard. He was grateful, by the grace of God and help of AA, to have lived a life of sobriety for 29 years. Those of you who knew Scott know how he loved to laugh, joke and pull practical jokes on his family and friends, how he enjoyed an all- you-can-eat buffet and what a sweet tooth he had! But he really loved and enjoyed a meal talking with family and friends. 

     Scott passed away at the age of 74, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Raymond and Betty Kaiser; his brothers: Tom Palmer, Ronnie and Louene Palmer and his brother-in-law, Marvin Andersen.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Madelyn “Maddie”; his children: Jeannett Palmer (Brad Schmidt), Bill (Angie) Palmer, Toni Jo (Kelly) Surber, Michael (Amanda) Palmer; eleven grandchildren: Jennifer (Kyle), Jessica (Jake), Tyler (Katie), Brady, Ella, Riley, Raymond (Misty), Shonn (Yoom), Trever (Aimee), Austin (Kalynn) and Desera (Chris); 19 great-grandkids and 2 on the way; his sister, Connie Andersen; his brother, Tim (Mary) Palmer; his sisters-in-law: Bonnie Palmer and Nora Leinen (John); his brothers-in-law: Greg Kaiser (Pam) and Rod Kaiser (Sherry); many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
