Arlo Otis Gritten

March 3, 1921 — January 29, 2007

Arlo Otis Gritten, son of Otis Calvin and Cora Josephine (Snyder) Gritten was born on a farm near Greenville, IA on March 3, 1921. He attended school in Gillett Grove. Arlo married Lois Evelyn King on May 25, 1942 in Platte City, MO. They farmed in Greenville from 1942 to 1955, then moved to Rossie, where the farm house is still the current address. Arlo was active in the Rossie United Church of Christ, the Greenville-Rossie School Board and the Farm Bureau. He farmed, raised livestock and custom combined. Arlo enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and beating his friends and family members at cards. He traveled extensively across the U.S., Europe, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico. As snowbirds, they pulled a trailer to Arizona, Florida and for the last 25 years they wintered in Donna, TX. The summers for 30 years were enjoyed at Orr's Campground, Lake Okoboji with family and friends. On January 29, 2007, Arlo passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandchild, Emmanuel Steuben; two sisters: Ileen Walstrom and Virginia Hoover. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois, of Rossie, IA; four daughters: Terri Ward of Manassas, VA, Donna Mae Harmon of Centennial, CO, Pamela Sheridan and husband, Patrick of Clinton, IA and Bonnie Trosin and husband, Larry of Rossie, IA; one son, Rodney Gritten of Spencer, IA; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.

Visitation will begin after 2:00p.m., Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00p.m., Wednesday eve. at the funeral home.
