Arnold Eugene Dodge

July 25, 1929 — August 15, 2021

Arnold Eugene Dodge, the son of Walter and Vina (Anderson) Dodge, was born July 25, 1929 in Langdon, Iowa.  His childhood years were spent the Langdon area, where he attended and graduated from Spencer High School in 1948 and attended Iowa State University for one year.  After his schooling he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict reaching the rank of Corporal until his honorable discharge in 1954.

     Arnold married Marlene Brawner in Gillett Grove, Iowa on June 13, 1954.  Following their marriage, they farmed near Langdon, where they raised 3 boys.  Arnold coached his boys in baseball where he was on the Little League Board and was an avid Twins fan making many trips to Minneapolis to attend games.  He was also an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. He moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1962 and worked for CD Farm Service for 31 years, until his retirement in 1992.  After his retirement, he drove a school bus for Spencer Schools. Marlene passed away on December 26, 1993.

     He married Ardyce Smith Ruehle on October 29, 1995 in Everly, Iowa.  They wintered in Donna, Texas for 22 years.  Arnold was an active member of the Langdon Methodist Church.  He was also a past member of the Y’s Men service club and enjoyed golf, volleyball and photography.  He also enjoyed his travels over the years to Alaska, Germany Hawaii and Jamaica

     Arnold passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021                    at the age of 92.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Marlene in 1993; his son, Curtis Dodge, two brothers: Flavius and twin brother, Arthur Dodge; a sister, Marion Stanley & a step daughter-in-law, Linda Ruehle.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ardyce of Spencer; two sons: Brad Dodge and Danny (Ann) Dodge all of Spencer; four stepchildren: Mark  Ruehle of Jesup, IA, Brian (Pat) Ruehle of Hazel Green, WI, Jon (Dawn) Ruehle of Cherokee, IA and Elizabeth “Beth” (Eddie) Gotte of Seguin, TX; 6 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchidren;  one step great great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Ruth Dodge of Longmont, CO; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer

A military flag presentation will be conducted by the Spencer American Legion at the cemetery

A lunch and time of fellowship will be held following the graveside services at the BenTena Room at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
