Arnold John Litka

Arnold John Litka, the son of Henry J. Litka and Annie (Jebsen) Litka, was born December 7, 1913, in Grant Township, O'Brien County, near Sutherland, Iowa and went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2009 at the age of 95 years and 7 months. He was received into God's Kingdom of grace by Holy Baptism as an infant and confirmed later in the same Lutheran church. Arnold attended Sutherland High School where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. He also actively participated in the Bethel Lutheran church youth group and local 4-H club. After graduation he began farming the family farm near Sutherland until leaving the farm at the age of 90. He married Verda Irene Skow of Graettinger, Iowa on August 21, 1949. Arnold and Verda raised 3 children, Mark, Deeann, and Dennis. He was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland and an avid supporter of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church camp at Okoboji. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Mark and his wife Brenda of Dubuque, Iowa; Deeann and her husband Denis Goeser of Omaha, Nebraska; Dennis and his wife, Sharon of Sutherland; five grandchildren, Matt Goeser, Nick Goeser, Amanda Litka, Austin Litka, and Nate Litka; and one sister Leona Plautz. He was preceded in death by his wife Verda; an infant daughter, Barbara; his parents; his sisters Rosella and Clara.
