Arnold Everett Kruse the son of Everett & Wilhelmina Haberman Kruse, was born in Clay Township, Royal, Iowa, on September 3, 1930. Arnold was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal. He received his early education in country schools and later graduated from the Royal High School in 1948. Following his schooling, Arnold enlisted with the United States Army where he served in Europe during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Arnold married Shirley DeMars on February 18, 1951, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm southwest of Royal, where Arnold farmed until his retirement in 2001. Arnold's vocational passion was farming, so it was of great interest to him to have been able to travel to Bahia, Brazil where he had the opportunity to participate in a South American soybean harvest with his grandson.
Arnold was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. He served 9 years on the Farmer's Coop Elevator Board and in his spare time, Arnold's special interests included collecting toy farm machinery and kite flying. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.
On August 30, 2003, Arnold married Marietta Smith at Ruthven, Iowa. They made their home in Spencer, until Arnold's poor health forced his move to assisted living and subsequently to Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer where he passed away on November 27, 2009, at the age of 79.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Shirley on September 8, 2001.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Marietta of Spencer; two sons and their wives: David and Jane Kruse of Spirit Lake, IA and Darwin and Terese Kruse of Fulda, MN; 8 grandchildren; one great- grandchild; his sister, Nelda Olson and her husband, Jim of Sutherland, IA; 4 step children: Denise (Tom) Gable of Ankeny, IA, Dr. Steven (Noreen) Smith of Osceola, IA, Lyn (Brian) Isom of Mediapolis, IA and Shannon (Jeff) Magner of Ankeny, IA; 12 step grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
