Arnold Robert White, the third son of Eddie B. and Lucille (Swanson) White, was born on December 28, 1932, on the family farm near Mallard, Iowa. He passed away on June 2, 2015, of a sudden heart attack at the farm, at the age of 82.
Arnie attended school in Mallard, Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving on the USS McCord and the USS James E. Kyes. He served from 1951 to 1955. In 1955, he began farming near Mallard, Iowa. He attended the GI Bill of Rights School.
Arnie married the love of his life, Darlene Gutz, on March 10, 1957 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Iowa. They began their life together on a farm near Curlew, Iowa, where their three daughters, Vicki, Jean and Mary were born. In 1964 Arnie moved his family to Ringsted, Iowa, to continue his farming career and welcomed two sons, Mark and Larry to the family. In addition to grain farming, he took great pleasure in feeding cattle. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, served on the church council, was a board member of the Ringsted Cooperative Grain Product Company, was a Jack Creek Township Trustee and an active participant in the Danish American Fellowship and Christiansen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post 382.
Arnie enjoyed boating, going on camping trips with his family, touring the US from coast to coast and Canada. On their 50th wedding anniversary, they took a trip to Alaska. As a Korean Veteran, he was able to go on the Honor Flight to the nation's capitol in Washington DC.
In 1999, Arnie and Darlene moved to their retirement home in Spencer, Iowa, and began spending winters in Arizona. He enjoyed playing tennis, bocci ball, pool and playing cards with friends.
Left to cherish Arnie's memory are his wife, Darlene; daughters, Jean (Mark) Kardell of Gretna, NE and Mary (Jim) Sikora of Spencer, IA; sons, Mark (Shelley) White of Graettinger, IA, and Larry (friend, Leslie) White of Spencer, IA; eleven grandchildren: Nicole (Patrick) Snook, Rick (fiance, Nicole) Zeman, Luke (Chelsea) Kardell, Chelsea, Ethan, and Aliece Kardell, Tyler Sikora, Brittany (David) Miller, Carlynn White (fiance, Tim), Devyn (friend, Tyler) and Logan White; 5 great-grandchildren: Mara, Trevon, Ryanna, Paxtynn and Preston.
Preceding Arnie in death were his daughter, Vicki; parents; brothers, Don and Vernie White.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
