Arthur Dean Barglof, son of Ernest and Myrtle (Lykins) Barglof, was born on the family farm on April 9, 1942, in Greenville, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Greenville-Rossie High School where he excelled at basketball and baseball.
He married Dianne Hadenfeldt and to this union one son, Douglas Arthur, was born. They lived on the family farm north of Sioux Rapids, where he helped his father-in-law, Lloyd Hadenfeldt farm and take care of livestock. Art was way ahead of his time in developing new and innovative ways to farm and loved the land. He was instrumental in developing the Little Sioux Golf & Country Club and continued to play in baseball leagues until he lost both legs in a farming accident in 1965. Even after the accident, Art continued to farm and wanted nothing more than to have his son continue the farming tradition. Art and Doug had a bond far beyond a father and son relationship and never wanted Doug to call him Dad, but rather just Art. Art continued to play golf and even with two artificial legs, was a scratch golfer and scored several hole-in-ones. He served as President of the Little Sioux Golf and Country Club and was on the tournament committee for several years. Everyone in the family played golf and he took pride in watching his two grandsons out on the course and giving lessons. Art also enjoyed going to stock car races and watching his son and grandsons race. He went to Spencer every Friday and Saturday night where he would go to the Silver Hammer and then Sarg's. He had such a zest for life and anyone who met Art, could never forget the man with the two wooden canes, sparkling blue eyes and a wry sense of humor. He loved to spend time with his grandsons and had a very special bond with his great-grandchildren. Arianna and Kaydon were the only ones allowed to call him 'Grandpa' as he felt he was finally old enough to have the title. He also loved his dog, Abby, who he missed every day since she passed away two years ago.
Art was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ruth Ann; his parents, Ernie and Myrtle Barglof, and brother Ray Barglof.
He is survived by his son, Doug and his wife, Deb Barglof of Sioux Rapids, IA; grandsons, Derrick and Mel of Webb, IA and Drew of Sioux Rapids; great-grandchildren, Arianna and Kaydon Barglof; one sister, Joyce and her husband, George of Alta, IA; one brother, Jim and his wife, Marge of Spencer; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
