Arvilla Susanna Sassman, the daughter of Oscar and Anna Erickson Cleveland, was born April 8, 1933 in Linn Grove, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Rembrandt, where she received her education and graduated from Rembrandt High School in 1950.
Arvilla married Harold Wayne Sassman on November 11, 1951, in Rembrandt, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Swanville, MN, Rembrandt, Albert City, IA and Spencer and later Dickens, IA, where they farmed for 50 years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer. Arvilla's family always came first, she was a devoted wife and mother. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, bird watching, dancing and going to the Senior Center.
Arvilla passed away on March 6, 2016 at Spencer Hospital at the age of 82. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; 2 sisters: Arla Anderson and Darlene Aronson.
She is survived by her children: Douglas (Kelli) Sassman of Rembrandt, IA, Cindy Lang and Gary of Bristol, CT, Kent Sassman of Webb, IA and Ana and Loren (Stacey) Sassman of Algona, IA; 8 grandchildren: Leo & Becky, Aaron & Stacy, Ryan & Tasha, Dawn & Adam, Ben & Ann, Jordan & Devius, Shawna and Jesse; great-grandchild: Leo IV, Aiden, McKenna, Lexi, Tate, Keely, Alyssa, Wyatt, Harper, Emma, MaKenna, Addison and Devius; one brother, John (Lorraine) Cleveland of Guthrie Center, IA; two sisters: Lucille (Cecil) Harms of Melrose, MN and Stella Gilbertson of Mundelein, IL; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer.
