Arvin George Schmidt, the son of John and Lena (Frick) Schmidt, was born September 2, 1932 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in Moneta, IA, where he received his education, graduating from Moneta High School. He later attended and graduated from Des Moines Area Community College. Arvin entered the military in 1953 and served with the U.S. Army until his Honorable Discharge in 1954.
Arvin returned to the Everly, IA area, where he married Muriel Kruse on February 6, 1955 in Royal, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed near Everly, from 1955 until 1978. They moved to Manilla, IA in 1978, where he was a Nursing Home Administrator in Denison, IA for 15 years. After their retirement, they moved back to Everly, where they continued to live. He was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, for many years, where he taught Sunday school. Arvin was also an active member of the Everly Community, where he served with the Legion Club, Lion’s Club and served on the St. Luke Lutheran Home board for 16 years. He also enjoyed reading and gardening.
He passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel in October of 2010 and one son, Marty Schmidt.
He is survived by his children: Kimberly (Jerry) Webb of Rush City, MN, Bradley Schmidt of Hartley, IA, Nancy (Michael) Sills of Marshalltown, IA and Linda (John) Raid of Cedar Rapids, IA; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene (Bud) Meyer of Everly, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
