Augusta (Gussie) Charlotte Egger Overeen was born November 8, 1920, in Holly Springs, IA to Albert and Maude (Eichhorn) Egger. She spent her childhood years on her parent’s farm north of Holly Springs. She participated in many activities in school and graduated in 1938 as Valedictorian of her class.
Gussie and her family moved to Spencer, IA after she graduated and lived on the “Green Ranch” east of Spencer before moving to Dickens.
She married Victor (Gene) Eugene Overeen on April 26, 1942, while he was serving in the Army in WWII. Gussie and Gene were blessed with four daughters.
Gussie was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was active in church circle, the Women of the Moose, Farm Bureau, Spencer Municipal Golf League and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, golfing, playing cards, dancing, and anything exciting that came along. She also loved to travel. She loved knitting and crocheting and made afghans for her entire family. She enjoyed watching her Twins play on TV. She knew all the players and even got to go to a game at the new stadium.
She managed the S&H Green Stamp Store until it closed in 1982.
Gussie passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s on February 10th at the age of 100.
Gussie was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Dean; her husband; her brothers, Everett and Victor; an infant granddaughter, Laura Tatman; son-in-law, Thomas Trosper and members of her extended family.
She is survived by her daughters: Charlotte Trosper, Julie (Doren) Tatman, Eloise (Steve) Larson, and Tina (Wayne) Ingram. Her grandchildren: Shawn (Amy) Trosper, Kimberly Tatman, Thad (Kimberlee) Trosper, Amy (John) Maher, Jill (Michael) O’Brien, Sarah (Robin) Shanks, John (Amber) Wilbur Jr., and Michael (Synnora) Wilbur. Her great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Katheryn, Alex, Olivia, Samantha, Harper, Jaxon, Elijah, Autumn, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister in-law, Barbara Dotson and many other relatives and friends.
