Barbara Jayne Anderson, the daughter of Joe and Jennie (Stone) Barger, was born March 5, 1931, in Edgewood, Iowa. She was raised and attended school there, graduating from Edgewood High School. After high school, she worked in the Cedar Rapids area.
A short time later Barbara and her sister, Mary moved to Spencer.
On February 3, 1952, Barbara married Harold Anderson, here in Spencer. Following their marriage, Barbara stayed home to raise her family. When the youngest started school, she went back to work for Great Lakes Travel Agency for over 13 years and then she went to work for Spencer School District as a Library Aid. She was an active member of Hope Reformed Church where she sang in the Hope Trio and helped organize there library.
In her younger years, she liked to golf, she was a Girl Scouts Brownie Leader and a hospital volunteer. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and traveling. Most of all she loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family.
Barbara passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, Longhouse Residence at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Lundt; her brother, James Barger; her 2 step-sisters, Maxine O’Keefe and Marion Zearley and her son-in-law, Todd Schloemer.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harold of Spencer, IA; four daughters: Vicki Thompson (Tom) of Des Moines, IA, Cam Niichel (Pat) of Spirit Lake, IA, Jamie Schloemer of Mankato, MN and Kristin Fickkema (Mark) of Spencer, IA; ten grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
